If you have a Need Wound, at a deep level you feel empty, lonely, and dependent, at least under certain circumstances. You may feel empty and needy when you aren’t with your partner or when you are alone. As a result, you may become overly dependent on a lover or spouse, unless a protector defends against this. When your partner pulls away from you, you may become much more upset than is warranted by the amount of distancing. You may give yourself up in the relationship in order to keep your partner from leaving you, or you may stay in a relationship long past the point where it is good for you.

You may feel a need to be with people much of the time to fend off your needy feelings. You may feel desperate to find a lover or a partner to fill your needs. When you are alone for a while, you may have a tendency to feel sad, lonely, or depressed.

These feelings may be completely conscious or they may only lurk in the background because you usually defend against them in certain ways, such as getting angry, withdrawing, or acting independent.
